Unerhörte Musik
We had a great time in Berlin with our wonderful hosts @ Unerhörte Musik ! It was great to see so many familiar faces at the concert last night and to finally meet and work together with the wonderful Alexandra Hallen on a brand new piece originally commissioned for KLANG Festival in 2021 but unfortunately cancelled due to COVID travel restrictions! We did it! 🕺 💃 💃 💃

Swiss Tour w/reConvert
Continuing Distractfold’s collaboration with reConvert, they traveled to Switzerland in April for concerts in Basel and Zurich. Programme: Kaj Duncan David - Sound and Music; Anna Korsun - Tollers Zelle; Hanna Hartman - The Cloud Factory; Bára Gísladóttir - Rage against the reply guy and Fernando Manassero - The Mesmerizing Sound of Accumulation.
‘What happens when you trim away all the gristle and fat and leave only bone and marrow? What happens when you chop up toms and over 200,000 fragments of porn audio? What happens when you used an AI to generate “Very Sad Rap” lyrics and then have a couple of different text-to-speech webpages vocalize them? What happens when halfway through your description you start using text written by a text-generating AI? What about a piece of art that you own that you call an art? In other words, what can we do with it, how do we use the data, what is the value of it, what are we trying to accomplish, or even why we're doing it? Well, I haven't heard that part yet. Following the release of Mauricio Pauly’s Sky Destroys Dog back in 2021, i’m super excited to now share two remixes of the piece! The new FREE album presents 2 unique reworkings of SDD, the foundations of which have been constructed from the original recorded stems!

‘I approached this remix by selecting my favorite two materials/moments from Daniel's performance/recording of Mauricio's "Sky Destroys Dog" and then featuring them as (slightly unequal) halves. Treated as samples, they are looped and brought into new context by juxtaposing two contrasting soundscapes composed/created on analog modular synth, which act as new containers for the disassociated elements.’ - Michelle Lou

Distractfold travelled to Copenhagen in Sep to perform the first of 6 concerts resulting from a collaborative project together with Denmark based duo, reConvert. The hybrid ensemble performed existing works, new arrangements and commissions by Anna Korsun, Bára Gísladóttir, Hanna Hartman, Fernando Manassero and Kaj Duncan David.
Columbia Composers presents Distractfold
Distractfold were in be in virtual residence with Columbia Composers live from the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester. Postponed due to COVID from their 2019-2020 concert season, this adapted, online residency saw the rehearsal, audio/video recording and release of 5 new pieces by Bill Dougherty; Sam Yulsman; Bethany Younge; Onur Yildirim; Nina Fukuoka and Uri Kochavi.
